Logtrail — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 September 2026

In short: Logtrail stores your browsing timeline entirely on your own device. It has no server, no account, and no analytics. Nothing you browse is ever transmitted anywhere.

Logtrail is a Chrome extension that keeps a local, searchable timeline of the pages you visit. This policy explains exactly what it collects, where that data goes, and how you control it.

What is collected

When you visit a page (on http:// or https:// sites only), Logtrail records:

By default, query-string parameters that look like they carry a one-time secret — password-reset tokens, magic-link codes, session identifiers, OAuth codes — are stripped from the stored URL before it is saved. You can turn this off, and you can exclude specific domains entirely, from the extension's Settings page.

Logtrail does not collect your name, email address, location, financial information, health information, or anything you type into forms. It does not read page content — only the URL, title, and timestamp of the tab you are viewing.

Where it is stored

All data is stored locally on your device using the browser's built-in chrome.storage.local API. Nothing is transmitted to us or to any server we operate — Logtrail has no backend. We have no access to your timeline and could not retrieve it if we wanted to.

Third-party requests

Logtrail makes no network requests of any kind. Site icons shown in the history popup come from Chrome's own local favicon cache, served by your browser rather than by any remote server.

The extension contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking code.

Incognito windows

If you enable Logtrail for Incognito windows in chrome://extensions, visits made in those windows are never recorded. Logtrail explicitly skips incognito tabs, so private browsing never enters your timeline.

Retention and your control

You control your data directly from the extension:

Uninstalling the extension removes all data Chrome has stored for it.

Children's privacy

Logtrail is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
